Kayakers in the Thames River found a body floating close to shore on Sunday near the Harvard Boat House, state police said in a press release.
Ledyard Police, state police and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene. Coast Guard officials removed the unidentified body from the river. It was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Farmington, the release says, where a post amortem examination will be conducted.
Conn. State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance said this afternoon that he expected the identity to be known on Tuesday. He said it looked like the body had been in the water for a few days.
