Teamwork Once Again!

Last week a reporter was here from The Thames River Times. She came to meet the newest ACOS and to get an idea about what we do here. I was working and answering calls and Officers O'Brien and Wuestner were caring for the animals and answering questions.

Our local Dog Scout leader Sheri Throop was also here at the office. She had helped with an introduction for one of our dogs and was here to see the adoption go through. This wonderful dog we had was a 10-year-old Jack Russel mix whose 102-year-old Mama had to go to a nursing facility. Sheri had a neighbor who was looking for a mature dog that was great with kids and would provide love and exercise for her. Perfect match!

Then a call came in for some baby birds that had fallen out of a nest in a garage and had been on the ground for over 12 hours. Thankfully we have a great group of volunteers in town the Wildlife Rescuers of Connecticut (she's one of the first members) so we put in a call to the group for a foster home for the birds and off we went to pick them up.

Sheri was able to make sure they were kept comfortable, hydrated and fed until the group's founder, Maze Stephan, was able to come by and bring them to a foster.

I hope no one ever gets tired of me using the word "Teamwork" in my blogs or even every-day conversations. I just cannot imagine doing this job without the wonderful people that I have around me! We all bring something different to the table and by working with each other help is always close by for our Ledyard residents and animals.

Just this morning my daughter, Marissalyn and her friends Carolynn and Catherine, heard there were horses roaming on Vinegar Hill (near the farm they volunteer at). I was at the vet with an injured cat, so Sgt. Petersen of the Ledyard Police, along with the owner of Titus Farm, and the girls gathered up the roaming horses and got them to their owners safe and sound!

What a day!
