Mashantucket Pequot Museum to Host Harvest Moon Living Exhibition on September 19

Celebrating the Gifts of the Land Through Indigenous Culture, Art, Food and Family-Friendly Activities

The Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center will host its annual Harvest Moon Living Exhibition on Saturday, September 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., welcoming visitors for a day celebrating the changing seasons and the gifts of the land through Indigenous culture, art, food and community.

The Harvest Moon offers an opportunity to reflect on the changing seasons and celebrate the abundance and gifts of the land. The Museum’s seasonal event offers family-friendly activities, cultural experiences, music, art, storytelling, food and beverage offerings, and opportunities to learn about the importance of the harvest season in Indigenous communities.

“The Harvest Moon Living Exhibition is an opportunity for guests of all ages to come together, experience Indigenous culture and learn about the importance of the harvest season,” said Maurice Jackson, Director of Sales and Museum Services. “Through hands-on activities, cultural programming and opportunities to connect with the land, we’re proud to create an experience that celebrates Native knowledge and traditions.”

Event Highlights

• Vendor Market and Craft Activities: Browse the Indigenous marketplace and participate in hands-on craft activities and scavenger hunts from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Animal Encounters: Meet animals from Xen’s Critters and the Maritime Aquarium Touch Tank from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Gourd Painting: Paint a gourd with artist Julianna from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free for Museum members; non-members may participate for a donation.
• Weewachum Food & Beverage Station: Enjoy fresh corn on the cob, popcorn and Purple Corn Juice (Chicha Morada) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., while supplies last.
• Fire-Roasted Corn Salad Demonstrations: Learn how to prepare fire-roasted corn salad during demonstrations at noon, 12:30 p.m., 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.
• Cultural Programming: The event will feature social dancing, a flute performance, storytelling and opportunities to learn more about the Gifts of the Land and the Pequot community.

1 p.m. | Gifts of the Land: Pequot Trail Walk (Museum members only)

1:20 p.m. | Stories of the Harvest: Storytelling

2 p.m. | Corn Husk Creations: One-hour session (free for Museum members; non-members may participate for a donation)

2:30 p.m. | Exhibit Highlight: One-hour guided tour (tickets must be purchased, free for Museum members)

2:45 p.m. | Closing Social Dancing

Ongoing activities, including the vendor market, craft activities, animal encounters and gourd painting, continue through 4 p.m.
