Celebrate Lunar New Year At Foxwoods

This year's celebration will include Kung Fu performances, authentic Asian delicacies, a magnificent cake and more.

MASHANTUCKET, CT — Foxwoods Resort Casino will mark the start of Year of the Dog on Sunday, Feb. 18, beginning at 10 a.m. with its biggest Lunar New Year event ever. This year’s celebration will include Chinese Cultural Arts, strolling entertainers, Kung Fu performances, the traditional Lion Dance and authentic Asian delicacies.

For guests of all ages, the Chinese Cultural Art Association will offer the opportunity to enjoy fruit carving, Chinese calligraphy, bead art and more from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at locations throughout Foxwoods, according to a release.

For the perfect photo opportunity, join in the fun as strolling entertainers will entertain guests throughout the resort with traditional Chinese folk dances, Kung Fu performances and the official Year of the Dog mascot beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Highlighting Foxwoods’ annual Lunar New Year kickoff will be the traditional Lion Dance performance in the Grand Pequot Hotel Lobby beginning at 11 a.m., which will be followed by a parade through the property. The procession will be led by the “Money God” and will culminate with the Grand Finale in Rainmaker Square.

The Lion Dance will be performed by the Boston Chinese Freemasons Athletic Club, a non-profit organization whose main purpose is to preserve and spread Chinese culture to all who are interested. Foxwoods Resort Casino prides itself on culturally-diverse to winning ways and parade attendees should be on the lookout for the “Money God,” who will be handing out Lucky Red Envelopes.

All Foxwoods guests and media are invited to join the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Council, including Chairman Rodney Butler and Tribal Council Elders, in this celebration and to enjoy a magnificent cake designed by Executive Pastry Chef Franck Iglesias and his team.

For foodies, enjoy a selection of Asian-inspired delicacies by Golden Dragon, Noodles and CAKE By Franck. Plus, in honor of this year’s celebration, Golden Dragon will offer authentic Chinese New Year dinner specials for groups of four, six and eight and will be available Feb. 16 to 22.
