Ledyard Passing Game Lights Up Mignault Field

The Ledyard Colonels put on an offensive clinic Friday night, moving the ball on the ground and especially through the air, and seemingly scoring at will. The result was a 65-21 home victory over the Montville Indians.

On a cold Friday night this was one of the most lopsided wins in memory, and it came against a normally formidable opponent. After a 4-0 start this season, Montville has not lost three straight.

ECC rushing leader Alex Manwaring scored four touchdowns in the first quarter. But he was assisted in a big way by senior receiver Slade Baxley, whose 48-yard kick-off return set up the first score of the game.

In all, Baxley accounted for 235 yards, scoring a touchdown and a two-point conversion. He even had an interception on defense. "Slade had his best game of the year," said parent Ted Stockmon.

Quarterback John Rainy threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. Other Ledyard players who scored were Thomas Finney, Ackee Barber, Matt Daggett and Cal Williams. (If we left out anyone let us know.)
