CT Woman Accused Of Calling 911, Reporting Phony Assault: Police

Ledyard police say they received several 911 calls from the local woman.

LEDYARD, CT β€” A Gales Ferry woman is accused of calling 911 and reporting a nonexistent assault early Monday morning, according to police.

Police Capt. Ken Creutz said police charged Renata Cook, 25, of 1500 Route 12, with misuse of the 911 system.

According to police, around 1:54 a.m., Ledyard police dispatch received a 911 call from a woman who said she was β€œassaulted.”

The caller refused to give her name or address and then hung up.

Police said Cook called several more times, and she was also transferred to Groton police dispatchers because she claimed an incident happened there.

β€œShe also hung up on them without providing her information,” police said, in an announcement Monday.

Ledyard police said they were able to determine Cook’s name and address. Around 6:30 a.m., officers went to her home and questioned her about the 911 calls.

β€œThe accused refused to cooperate or answer any questions,” police said, in a news release. β€œIt was subsequently found that no assault occurred.”

Ledyard police arrested and processed her Monday morning. She was released on a $7,500 non-surety bond, and she is due to appear in Superior Court in New London on April 6.
