Displaced Cats Settle In at LHS

Agri-Science Department Will Care for Cats Awaiting Adoption

Nine cats and 21 kittens are nestled in cages in the animal science lab at Ledyard High School as teachers and students work to find them homes.

Seniors Lexy Monroe and Karleigh Reeves have made caring for the cats their special project. They clean the cages, feed the cats and track their weight. On Tuesday, they were cleaning the ears of all the adults.

The cats have already received a clean bill of health from Norwichtown Veterinary Hospital. They have had their shots and been dewormed, too. They will have to be dewormed  again and have their ears cleaned again in two weeks. After that, the school will try to find homes for all but the mothers and kittens.

The kittens will have to stay longer.  According to Agri-Science teacher Devon O’Keefe, the school hopes to combine an adoption event with the Canine Wellness Fair it will host on June 5.
