When we get dogs in to the pound we do a visual assessment on the general appearance and well-being of the dog. We are asked when people stop by "Is that a Bull dog mix" "Is that a Pitbull or Pitbull mix", "Is that a chihuahua mix"? And my usual answer is " I don't know". And I really don't. We are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix.
We see the dogs as "DOGS". Are they happy dogs? Healthy dogs? Dogs with a lot of energy or a dog more suited to a quieter home? We see each dog as an individual not as a "breed". I would love it if we could just describe a dog that way instead of having to "label" it.
We encourage you to select your new family member by considering a dogs personality and unique qualities.
