Police ID Victim of Fatal Ledyard Crash [UPDATE]

The accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Labor Day.

A fiery head-on car accident on Route 117 between a motorcycle and a car resulted in the death of the motorcyclist, according to The Day newspaper. The accident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7.

State police identified the victim as Eric B. Retherford, 37, of 495 Laurel Hill Rd. in Norwich. Retherford was reportedly southbound on Route 117 when he crossed the double yellow line in the center of the roadway.

He struck a Honda CRV head on and was not responsive when emergency personnel arrived on scene. According to The Day newspaper, Retherford was not wearing a helmet. He succumbed to injuries at the scene of the accident.

Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call Ledyard Officer Troy Johnson at 860-464-8225.

The driver of the car involved was Mystic resident Raymond K. Kwok, 59. The passenger was King Heung, 52, also of Mystic. The two sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital.

The Ledyard Police Department said its Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating.
