Fire Damages Residence At Outback Stables Property In Ledyard: FD

LEDYARD, CT — A fire damaged a residence on Colonel Ledyard Highway Monday evening, fire officials said.

The Ledyard Fire Co. said firefighters were summoned to the scene around 6:17 p.m. Monday for a reported kitchen fire.

The property is at 538 Colonel Ledyard Highway, which is home to Outback Stables.

In addition to the residence where the fire happened, the equestrian property has a barn and offers boarding, training and horse riding lessons.

Firefighters arrived and stretched a hose line and quickly brought the house fire under control. No humans or animals were injured, according to the fire department.

The fire was not near the barn, and none of the animals were in danger, officials said.

Fire Marshal James Mann said Tuesday his office is still investigating the cause and origin of the house fire, and the investigation will take several days.

Mann described the damage to the house as “moderate,” and he said it is not habitable.

The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the residents affected by the fire, including providing personal care items and information on fire recovery, according to Jasmin Franjul, its regional communications manager for Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Red Cross caseworkers and those affected by the fire will connect in the coming days to work on a longer-term recovery plan, according to Franjul.
