Five Things to Know Today
'Impossible' Winter Production, Amistad Club, Roof Melt Down

- Sunshine and some clouds today, high near 30F. Winds WSW at 10 to 15 mph. Tonight partly cloudy, low near 25F. Scattered flurries on Saturday, with highs in the upper 30s, then partly cloudy on Sunday, highs in the low 40s.
- What's in a name? "Six Impossible Things Before Breakfast," Ledyard High School Drama's winter production, was supposed to have opened Thursday, Feb. 10, but multiple school cancellations made it IMPOSSIBLE to produce the show. As noted on the school's website, "Impossible Things eaten by SNOW!" Auditions for "SCAPIN" will be held on Feb. 14 and 15 - with snow dates for the 16th, 17th and 18th if needed!
- Janet Barnett and Sara Holdridge meet weekly at the Bill Library with kids from non-English-speaking homes. They help them with their homework, but mostly just provide friendship, which is why they call it the "Amistad Club."
- The Ledyard Board of Education saved perhaps tens of thousands of dollars by electing not to clear snow off the roof of the high school gymnasium and other school buildings. So far, that appears to have been the right decision (knock on wood).
- The Mystic Pony Club will host a Quiz Competition at Ledyard High School VOAG Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call 860 464-8644.
