Four-Car Crash Closes Route 2 [With Video]
Several Hospitalized, But No Life-Threatening Injuries Reported
The westbound lane of Route 2 near the end of the overpass by Foxwoods was closed by a four-car crash earlier this afternoon that sent several people to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The roadway has since been reopened, although police and firefighters were still clearing the area after 3 p.m.
The crash scene looked a lot worse than it could have been. A late-model Nissan SUV sat on its roof at one side of Route 2 and an engine sat squarely in the middle of the road.

One woman involved in the crash, Diane Preston of Norwich, was driving a Jeep Wrangler with her young grandson aboard when she said a green car came straight at her.
Preston’s Jeep sat on three wheels in the middle of the road, awaiting a tow truck, but she and her grandson were OK.

“(The Jeep) can be replaced,” said Preston, who was on her way to have her oil changed with the crash occurred.
A woman who sat near Preston also was unharmed except for minor burns on her forearm from the airbag when it activated. She also awaited a tow truck for her car.
The crash apparently occurred when an eastbound vehicle near the overpass struck three cars that were westbound. A witness at the scene said a car flipped over and went head-on into approaching vehicles.
The accident, which occurred just over the North Stonington line, is under investigation.
