The site includes a 1678 house, the oldest house in New London, and an adjacent 1759 house built by a local ropemaker. Joshua Hempsted, born in the older house, kept a diary that today provides hundreds of pages of valuable information about early New Londoners -- including Adam Jackson, who was enslaved to Hempsted.
