High School Evacuated, But No Gas Leak Found

Natural Gas Sensor At School Cited For Lunchtime Visit by Fire Companies

A suspected natural gas leak at Ledyard High School resulted in a school-wide evacuation that remained in effect while fire fighters investigated the building. Ledyard Fire Chief Steve Daggett said no leak was found.

Police and fire officials said the alarm was set off by one or more sensors installed to detect natural gas in the school. The evacuation commenced just after noon today and remained in force for nearly 90 minutes while fire personnel from Ledyard and Gales Ferry inspected the building.

Fortunately, the weather today was beautiful, no leak was found, no one was hurt and no harm was done.
