Ledyard Car Break-In Interrupted By Vehicle Owner: Police
The man fled on foot from the scene but was apprehended by the use of a police K9.

At approximately 1:21 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, the Ledyard Police Department was dispatched to a residence on Winthrop Road in the Gales Ferry section of Ledyard, for a report of an active larceny from a motor vehicle.
Police learned that someone entered an unlocked vehicle and allegedly took change before being interrupted by the homeowner. Once the person was interrupted, they fled on foot, according to police.
Ledyard Police used a police K9 to conduct a track which led to an unoccupied home on Bluff Road, where a man was found. Police said he admitted that he broke into multiple vehicles in the Gales Ferry Village. At the Bluff Rd location numerous stolen items were located.

The Ledyard Police Department arrested Robert Chapel, 34, of no permanent address, and charged him with larceny in the sixth degree and trespassing. He was held and will be presented for arraignment on Oct. 1.
The Ledyard Police Department is asking anyone in the Gales Ferry Village area who may be a victim of a vehicle-break in to contact police at 860-464-6400.
