Ledyard Election Results 2018: Local Winners Revealed

Residents voted Tuesday to elect a new governor and also cast their ballots on key local and state races and a U.S. Senate seat.

LEDYARD, CT — Voters cast their votes in Connecticut's statewide election Tuesday and most winners have been revealed. Governor, Lt. governor, state treasurer, state comptroller, attorney general and secretary of the state are all up for grabs. Several local state senate, state house of representative and judge of probate races will also be decided.

Locally, in Ledyard the choices for the 19th Senatorial District are: Democratic incumbent Catherine A. Osten versus Republican candidate Mark A. Lounsbury. The New London Day reported Tuesday night that Osten declared victory over Lounsbury, according to unofficial results.

According to her website, Osten was first elected in November 2012 and is now serving her third term representing the residents of the 19th state Senatorial District. In recent years, she has helped write and pass "such important legislation as increasing Connecticut’s minimum wage, a sex offender notification bill, the creation of senior safety zones task force, and creating a state version of 'Erin’s Law', which requires that children be educated in schools on sexual abuse in a child-friendly manner, for the purpose of informing and protecting them from sexual abuse."

According to his campaign Facebook page, Lounsbury "will work to make Connecticut affordable: Calling for removal of oppressive regulations, ending frivolous spending, ensuring that the legislated bonding cap is honored, and reducing taxes in a fiscally responsible manner."

Ledyard residents also voted on these state representative races: 4oth House District, in which the choices are incumbent Christine Conley, Democratic Party, and John F. Scott, Republican Party. The New London Day reported Tuesday night Conley won out over Scott in the 4oth District House race, according to unofficial results.

According to her website, Conley is a first-term State Representative serving Groton and Ledyard’s 40th Assembly District. Prior to her service in the General Assembly, Conley was a three-term member of the Representative Town Meeting of Groton, and was elected Moderator in a vote of bipartisan support. She also served on the Golf Advisory Board for Groton Parks and Recreation and, through her years of service, has built positive relationships with the Town of Groton administrators and Town Council as well as other members of the community.

According to his campaign Facebook page, Scott has devoted his life to public service. He has served in many different capacities in Groton and Ledyard from the Groton Town Council and the Groton RTM to the Zoning Commission and the Beach and Parks Commission. A small business owner, Scott "worked tirelessly to support business owners and proposed legislation to reduce unnecessary taxes placed on job creators."

42nd House District: incumbent Mike France, Republican Party, versus Elizabeth Schwebel, Democratic Party. The New London Day reported Tuesday night that France declared victory over Schwebel, according to unofficial results.

According to his website, France is currently serving his second term as State Representative representing the 42nd District. In November 2011, he was elected to the Ledyard Town Council and assigned to serve as the Chair of the Finance Committee. During his tenure, he also served the residents of Ledyard as the Town Council Liaison to the Permanent Municipal Building Committee, Historic District Commission, Conservation Commission and Pension Board.

He serves on the Ledyard Republican Town Committee and was elected Chair in March 2013, serving in that capacity for three years. In May 2013, he was elected to the Republican State Central Committee, representing the 19th District.

Schwebel currently leads Ledyard Tabata Mamas, a free exercise group for women, with the goal of building self-esteem and empowering women. She is a member of the Ledyard Democratic Town Committee as well as her church’s choir and handbell choir. She has been a passionate advocate and wants to use that passion to fight for our district, according to her website.

For the Judge of Probate race, the choices are Nicholas Kepple, Democratic Party, and Salvatore Ritacco, Republican Party.

The Registrar of Voters race is between Hazel M. Gorman, Democratic Party, and Nancy Lozier, Republican Party.

All eyes are on the Governor’s race where the choices are: Ned Lamont, Democrat, Bob Stefanowski, Republican, Rodney Hanscomb, Libertarian, Mark Stewart Greenstein, Amigo Constitution Liberty Party, and Oz Griebel, Griebel Frank for CT Party.

The candidates for lieutenant governor are: Susan Bysiewicz, Democrat, Joe Markley, Republican, Jeffrey Thibeault, Libertarian Party, John Demitrus, Amigo Constitution Liberty Party, and Monte E Frank, Griebel Frank for CT Party.

The choices for the U.S. Senate race are: Matthew Corey, Republican Party, Christopher S. Murphy, Democratic Party, Richard Lion, Libertarian Party, and Jeff Russell, Green Party

For the U.S. House of Representatives race the choices in the 2nd District are: Joe Courtney, Democratic Party, Danny Postemski, Jr., Republican Party, Daniel Reale, Libertarian Party, and Michelle Louise Bicking, Green Party.

In the Secretary of State race the choices are: Denise W Merrill, Democratic Party, Susan Chapman, Republican Party, Heather Lynn Sylvestre Gwynn, Libertarian Party, and Michael DeRosa, Green Party.

In the race for State Treasurer the choices are: Shawn Wooden, Democratic Party, Thad Gray, Republican Party, and Jesse Brohinsky, Libertarian Party.

For the position of State Comptroller the choices are: Kurt Miller, Republican Party, Kevin Lembo, Democratic Party, Paul Passarelli, Libertarian Party, and Edward G Heflin, Green Party.

For the position of Attorney General the choices are: William Tong, Democratic Party, Sue Hatfield, Republican Party, Peter D. Goselin, Green Party.
