Ledyard Man, 20, Committed to State Psychiatric Care System for Stabbing Mother: Report

LEDYARD, CT - A Ledyard man has received his sentence for allegedly stabbing his mother in the back during what was described as a psychotic break, the New London Day reported.

Alec Chattin, 20, was found guilty by reason of insanity in court Friday for stabbing his mother in January 2016, according to the New London Day. The suspect had been diagnosed mentally ill at a young age and had recently stopped taking his medication.

Chattin was ordered committed to the state's psychiatric care system for up to 19 years, the New London Day reported. He will now be in the custody of the state's Psychiatric Security Review Board,
