Ledyard Man Crashes Into Cars, 5 Hospitalized: New London PD

It was a very scary scene in New London Saturday afternoon as several people were hospitalized, police say.

NEW LONDON, CT — Five people were hospitalized after a Ledyard man crashed his vehicle into several vehicles in New London, Police said. The driver of the vehicle was administered Narcan and is facing several charges, police said.

At 3:59 p.m. Saturday, the New London Emergency Communications Center received multiple calls reporting a white jeep Wrangler crashing into other vehicles without stopping. The described jeep stuck vehicles in the area of Truman, Shaw, and Upper Bank streets, police said.

Five individuals were transported to L+M Hospital as a result of the accident. None of the sustained injuries appeared to be life threatening, police said. The offending jeep finally came to a stop after it became disabled because of a collision with a vehicle in the area of Bank and Summer streets, police said.

The operator of jeep was Charles Hoey, 47, of Homestead Road in Ledyard. Narcan was administered to Hoey on scene by medics prior to him being transported to L+M Hospital for further medical care, police said.

Hoey was released into police custody after a brief stay at the hospital. Narcotics and drug paraphernalia
were located and seized in Hoey’s vehicle by police at time of initial contact, police said. The associated investigation resulted in Hoey being charged as follows: DUI, failure to drive right, evading responsibility, multiple counts, following too close, multiple counts, possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia.
