Ledyard Man Undergoes Insanity Trial for Stabbing Mother
The suspect, who was diagnosed mentally ill at a young age, pursued an insanity defense.

LEDYARD, CT – Police said a man was committed to a state hospital for stabbing his mother on the grounds of mental illness, The Day reported.
Alec Chattin, 21, of Ledyard stabbed his mother in her bedroom in January after unsuccessfully attempting to shoot her, according to The Day. The victim, Brenda Chattin, said in court her son severed the main tendon to her index finger, slashed her ear and cut her left side and arm.
The suspect pursued the insanity defense, and was diagnosed mentally ill at a young age, The Day reported. He had recently stopped taking his medication and failed out of college.
