Ledyard Motorcycle Crash Leaves 2 In Critical Condition: Police

Two people are in critical condition following a motorcycle crash late Sunday night.

LEDYARD, MA — Two people are in critical condition following a motorcycle crash in Ledyard late Sunday night, according to police. Police responded to a report of a crash on Route 214 just west of Avery Hill Road at 11 p.m.

A preliminary investigation showed that the bike was traveling eastbound on Route 214 when the driver lost control while attempting to negotiate a sharp curve, according to police.

The motorcycle slid off the roadway and struck a large boulder causing both the driver and passenger to be ejected from the bike.

The driver, a 25-year-old Putnam man, was transported from the scene by ambulance to Backus Hospital and later flown to Hartford Hospital by Lifestar. The passenger, a 42-year-old Ledyard woman, was flown from the scene to Hartford Hospital by Lifestar, according to a police statement. Both were listed in critical condition.

The Stonington and Groton Town police departments assisted Ledyard in the investigation. The Ledyard and Gales Ferry fire departments and American Ambulance also responded to the scene.
