Have you seen opossums around lately? Ledyard Animal Control says they've received a lot of calls on the furry critters and provided info.
Post from Ledyard Animal Control:
LAC has been getting lots of calls with concerns regarding opossums. Opossums have been seen out during daytime hours frequently, and with the crazy amounts of snow, it’s no wonder.. they are hungry. And in CT, It is also the start of mating season.
The BIG question... Do opossums carry rabies?

Answer: Any mammal can get rabies. However, the chance of rabies in an opossum is EXTREMELY RARE. This may have something to do with the opossum’s low body temperature (94-97º F) making it difficult for the virus to survive in an opossum’s body.
This does not mean you should go out and play with one! And please don’t hesitate to call LAC when you have a concern.
