Ledyard Police Crack Down on Speeders

Here are the findings after Ledyard police participated in a high risk rural roads speed enforcement campaign.

The Ledyard Police Department, and the Ledyard Resident State Trooper, completed its participation in the State of Connecticut “High Risk Rural Roads- Speed Enforcement Grant” on September 30, 2014. Beginning July 18, 2014, Officers were assigned to an additional 311.5 hrs of dedicated traffic enforcement patrol. This allowed Officers to concentrate solely on enforcement efforts, in contrast to regular Patrol shifts which are routinely called away to calls for service, investigations, and report writing.

During the grant period, the Ledyard Police Department as a whole conducted 917 vehicle stops during this 45 day period. Officers assigned to the grant issued 530 summons/infractions for speed violations, arrested 12 uninsured and 10 under suspension operators, issued 54 summons/infractions for motor vehicle violations including distracted driving, made 1 DUI, 1 drug, 1 fugitive and 3 felony arrests.
