Ledyard Teen Inspires Helmet Safety Law

LEDYARD, CT — A Ledyard teen who passed away over a year ago has inspired a helmet safety bill that is set to become law, the New London Day reported.
According to the Day, the bill was inspired by Conor Irwin, a Ledyard High School student who died Nov. 25, 2016, after falling from his longboard and severely damaging his brain. He would have celebrated his 16th birthday last week.
The senate passed a House-amended bill Wednesday as part of a larger bill concerning road safety, according to the Day. Under "Conor's Law," children 15 years or younger must wear protective headgear when skateboarding, roller skating or in-line skating.
