The role of the Board of Assessment Appeals (BAA) is to review property valuations to ensure they are just and equitable. Property valuations include real estate, commercial, personal and motor vehicle valuations. The Board conducts business in the months of March and September. The Board meets on Saturdays and several evenings in March (and again in September) on dates that work for all the members. The time commitment will vary depending on the number of assessment appeals received in any given year. Candidates for the Board should have an interest in real estate and motor vehicle valuation techniques, be detail oriented, and be willing to learn from other Board members. Also, it should be noted that this board does not affect school or town budgets/expenditures nor the town’s tax mill rate.
