Man Accused In String Of Burglaries In Southeastern CT, RI, Police Say
A man faces charges that he burglarized a liquor shop in Ledyard. Police say he committed similar crimes in Stonington and Rhode Island.
LEDYARD, CT — A man was arrested following the burglary of a Ledyard liquor shop. The man is also accused in similar burglaries in Stonington and Rhode Island, police said.
Police responded Jan. 27 at 3:43 a.m. after the owner of Ledyard Town Spirits at 749 Colonel Ledyard Highway reported suspicious activity on their security cameras.
Police arrived at the building and found that one of the front doors had the glass removed from the door. The glass was placed to the side of the building and left fully intact.

Police entered the building and discovered a cash register on the ground and papers scattered.
The business owner arrived a short time later and confirmed that the alarm within the business was never triggered.

A similar incident occurred in Stonington a short while earlier, police said. Other similar burglaries had been reported in Rhode Island, mainly in the town of Cumberland.
Following a joint investigation, a suspect was identified as Troy Stone, 40, of Cumberland, Rhode Island, according to police.
He was arrested Jan. 29 and charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree larceny. He was held on a $40,000 surety bon and presented at New London Superior Court on a later date.
