Man Arrested, Charged with Selling Heroin in Ledyard

Ledyard police said they arrested a man charged in connection with the sale of heroin after obtaining information in Groton.

LEDYARD, CT - Police said they arrested a man charged in connection with the sale of heroin. The arrest was made in collaboration with the Regional Community Enhancement Task Force, according to a release.

Juan Hazard, 41, of Cranston, Rhode Island, was arrested Wednesday at approximately 5:24 p.m., according to a release. He was charged with possession of heroin with the intent to sell over 1 ounce, risk of injury and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, police said. Officers seized approximately 345 grams of heroin (12.3 ounces), a cell phone and a Cadillac Escalade, police said. An infant child was located in the vehicle with the suspect and narcotics present, according to police.

The estimated street value of all drugs seized during the investigation is approximately $34,500, police said. All of the heroin seized in this case field tested positive for the presumptive presence of fentanyl, police said.

Police said a nexus was discovered that spanned the towns of both Groton and Ledyard. Task force officers were led to the town of Ledyard after gaining information on Wednesday in Groton, police said.

Hazard was held on $150,000 bond and was scheduled to be presented in New London Superior Court on Thursday, police said.
