Man Charged With DUI, Knife Possession In Ledyard: Police

A man was charged with DUI who police said had a knife with a blade over four inches in his vehicle.

LEDYARD, CT — A man was charged with DUI and weapons crimes over the weekend, according to police. Police were conducting speed enforcement on Center Groton Road at 1:46 a.m. Saturday and pulled over a speeding car.

Christopher Rainieri, 51, of New London, was the driver, and police said he "was found to have a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath." Police said Rainieri then failed a field sobriety test.

Police also said Rainieri's driving privileges had been suspended. He had a knife with a blade over four inches in the vehicle's glove box.

Rainieri was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol/drugs, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, operating under suspension, and speeding.

He was released on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on June 3.
