Man Charged In Ledyard DUI Crash: Police

A man was charged in a DUI wreck Tuesday night, according to police.

LEDYARD, CT — A man was charged following a drunk-driving wreck in Ledyard, according to police. Chester Matteson, 59, of Exeter, RI, was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics.

Police responded Tuesday at 10:52 p.m. to the entrance of Henny Penny at Route 12 and Chapman Lane on a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries.

Matteson was identified as one of the drivers in the crash. Police said an investigation found that Matteson was driving northbound on Route 12 and the other vehicle was driving southbound on Route 12.

Matteson failed to yield and turned in front of the other vehicle resulting in the accident, according to police. The other driver was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Matteson was transported to the Ledyard Police Department and held on $2,500 bond. He is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Aug. 24.
