Man Charged In Ledyard DWI Crash: Police

Police have charged a Quaker Hill man in connection with a May wreck.

LEDYARD, CT — A man is facing charges in an alleged DWI crash, according to police. Police responded May 6 at 6:02 p.m. to a two-car wreck on Route 12 near its intersection with River Drive.

The driver of a gray Jeep Wrangler suffered injuries and was transported to Backus Hospital. A police investigation found that the driver, Robert Allard, 59, of Quaker Hill, was driving under the influence of alcohol and had a stainless silver-colored compact 1911 pistol on him.

A warrant was granted for Allard's arrest, and he turned himself into Ledyard police without incident. Allard was charged with DWI, following too close, and carrying a firearm under the influence of alcohol/drugs.

His bond was set at $50,000. He is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Monday.
