Man Charged With Stabbing Dog In Ledyard: Police

A local man is being charged with cruelty to animals for allegedly stabbing a dog.

LEDYARD, CT — A local man is being charged on accusations that he stabbed a dog, according to police. Ledyard police received a call from Groton/Ledyard Veterinary Hospital on Tuesday reporting that a woman had come in with a dog stating that the dog had been stabbed.

Police found that David Cooper, 51, was at his Center Groton Road home with his girlfriend and their dog. Cooper became annoyed by the the dog jumping up on him and stabbed the dog in the neck area with a small knife, according to police.

Cooper’s girlfriend took the dog to the Groton/Ledyard Vet where the animal was treated and released. The dog is medium-sized and unknown breed.

Cooper was charged with cruelty to animal and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on May 20.
