Ledyard police said officers chased a Mystic man through various areas of town, driving on the rims of his tires after they deflated.

LEDYARD, CT - Police said a Mystic man lead officers on a chase through various areas of Ledyard on Wednesday night. The chase ended after the suspect struck a police cruiser and spun out, according to a release.

Police received calls around 9:30 p.m. reporting an erratic driver entering Ledyard traveling northbound on state Route 117. Police said officers were able to stop the driver, 19-year old William H. Charette of Mystic, just north of Hill Street, however he quickly took off again.

Police subsequently deployed stop sticks on Route 117 in Ledyard Center and deflated two of the suspect's tires, however the driver continued driving north on Route 117, police said. He then drove west on Route 2A and south on Route 12.

Police said the suspect was driving on the rims of his tires by the time he reached Route 12.

Police said Charette became increasingly reckless, passing cars and driving in the oncoming lane. The suspect eventually struck a police cruiser, causing his car to spin out and stop after striking a metal guard rail, police said.
