LEDYARD, CT - The potential departure of Ledyard Mayor Michael Finkelstein has been met with surprise by town officials, the New London Day reported.

Finkelstein was announced last week as the potential new chief of police for East Lyme, according to the New London Day. The announcement allegedly came as a surprise for both residents and councilors.

Officials said Finkelstein had applied for the position and was not recruited, according to the New London Day. The mayor said his applying for the position stems from a deep passion for law enforcement rather than any desire to leave his current position.
