Projected Snow Totals In for Ledyard's Weekend Storm

Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan says: “Midday European computer model shows a pretty substantial winter storm on Saturday [Jan. 24]. It will be a strong but compact system with a narrow band of heavy snow. Still too early to pin down exactly where that heavy snow will fall but it’s absolutely worth watching!”

Meteorologist Gil Simmons says: “I am holding steady on my thoughts for accumulating ‪snow‬ for‪ ‎Connecticut‬ Saturday!”

Since the earlier report noting the possibility of six inches of snow, the National Weather Service updated its forecast with projected accumulation totals for the Saturday, Jan. 24, storm.

The Most Current NWS Forecast

• Wednesday Night: Light snow likely, mainly between 10 p.m. and midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 21. North wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Thursday: A slight chance of light snow before 9 a.m. Cloudy, with a high near 37. Wind chill values between 15 and 25. North wind 5 to 7 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

• Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 18. Northwest wind around 6 mph.

• Friday: Sunny, with a high near 34. Wind chill values between 10 and 20. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.

• Friday Night: A slight chance of snow and freezing rain after 3 a.m. Increasing clouds, with a low around 22. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

• Saturday: A chance of snow and freezing rain before noon, then rain and snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 35. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New ice accumulation of around a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

• Saturday Night: Snow and freezing rain likely, mainly before 9 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

• Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 33.

• Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14.

• Monday: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 31. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

• Monday Night: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
