The Journal reported previously that Cabral was attacked and stabbed by a number of people in a drug store parking lot after leaving a nightclub. According to the Connecticut and Rhode Island judiciaries, in 2014, Jaquontee Reels, then 18, pleaded no contest and was adjudicated guilty on four separate third-degree assault charges in connection with a 2013 incident where he fired at kids and a pregnant woman with a paintball gun. He was originally facing 30 conspiracy charges, including conspiracy to commit assault and conspiracy to commit cruelty to animals. He was sentenced to one year in jail, suspended, and given two years probation.
In 2017, he "used a vehicle without permission" and was found guilty. He got a one-year jail term which was suspended. Also in 2017, he pleaded no contest to three Rhode Island domestic-related misdemeanor and felony charges.
Sequoya Reels was convicted in 2013 of a near-fatal 2012 stabbing. He was 20 when he was sentenced to 10 years, he served around 2 1/2 years in state prison. Out of prison, in 2017, Ledyard Police charged him with evading responsibility and he was given a year probation.
