Rep. France to Host Public Forum on Potential Gypsy Moth Infestation
Thursday, August 27, 2015 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Ledyard Senior Center.

LEDYARD – State Representative Mike France (R-42) will be hosting a public forum with Dr. Kirby Stafford, Chief Entomologist of the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, to share information on the potential for gypsy moth infestation in 2016 in Ledyard, Preston and Montville and what steps residents can take to minimize the impact.
According to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), with a very dry spring in 2015, there was no early control of the gypsy moth by the gypsy moth fungus Entomophaga maimaigi. Moisture is required for the fungus to infect the gypsy moth larvae (caterpillars) and little or no precipitation was available for the fungus to provide control of young caterpillars. Reports of activity, such as summer tree defoliation, have been most notable in New Haven, Middlesex, and parts of Hartford and New London counties.
The forum will be held:
