Rep. France and Rep. Scott Applaud Community Development Block Grants for Ledyard and Montville

The $800,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Small Cities Program awards will go towards housing rehabilitation programs.

HARTFORD – State Representative Mike France (R – Ledyard, Preston & Montville) and State Representative John Scott (R – Groton, Ledyard) today commended the Connecticut Department of Housing for granting $800,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Small Cities Program awards to Ledyard and Montville.

The $400,000 grant to Ledyard will be used to continue the town’s Housing Rehabilitation Loan Program to help low- and moderate-income homeowners repair 15 housing units.

Montville, also receiving $400,000, will use the funds to start up its first Housing Rehabilitation program to renovate 10 low- and moderate-income individual homes.

Upgrades in both towns will include roof replacement, heating systems, window replacement, lead paint and asbestos removal, and electrical and code upgrades.

“I am happy to see funds provided to continue the great work under the Housing Rehabilitation Loan Program in Ledyard and to start a similar program in Montville,” said Rep. France. “These funds have been used in Ledyard on two previous occasions enabling low-and moderate-income residents to make much-needed repairs to their homes. I am confident that Montville residents will see great results from this program as well. I thank the Governor and the Department of Housing (DOH) Commissioner for their support.”

“I’m pleased these funds will be coming to Ledyard and will be used to bolster the good work being done under the Housing Rehabilitation Loan Program,” Rep. Scott said. “Helping to offset the high costs of home repair for families that need assistance is a benefit to the entire community and I want to thank the Department of Housing for approving these grants.”

The CDBG Small Cities program is administered by DOH using federal funds allocated to Connecticut by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Under the CDBG Small Cities program, eligible applicants include towns with populations not exceeding 50,000 residents.
