Reps. France and Scott Reflect on the 2015 Legislative Session with Constituents
Town Hall Meetings took place in Ledyard and Preston June 13th and June 18th.

HARTFORD – Will Connecticut return to tolls? Will gaming be expanded? What are the final steps in Connecticut’s budget process? These were all questions asked by 42nd district residents at the Preston Public Library when Rep. France (R- Ledyard, Preston & Montville) hosted a Town Hall meeting on June 13 to discuss legislative issues.
“Residents of Connecticut have a right to know what’s happening at the Legislature,” said Rep. France. “They are the loudest voice in determining what impact state government will have on their area. I am always happy to answer any questions or concerns my constituents may have. This meeting was particularly engaging as we discussed transportation, keno, the possibility of jobs moving out of the state, and the budget implementer and other bills that awaits us in special session.”
Rep. France and Rep. John Scott (R-Groton & Ledyard) later held a successful joint Town Hall meeting in Ledyard Thursday night, June 18. More than a dozen concerned citizens turned out to listen as the legislators discussed legislation from the recently ended session, explained how policy decisions made in Hartford will directly impact Ledyard and Southeastern Connecticut, and discussed the budget implementer vote set to take place in the next two weeks.

After brief remarks, the freshman legislators opened the room up to questions, many of which regarded the state’s spending, budget deficit and budget-writing process. They also discussed funding for education, transportation and hospitals, as well as the potential for Connecticut to see losses in businesses, jobs and state grants. Constituents inquired about unitary, car and entertainment taxes, in addition to Connecticut’s travel industry/Uber and benefits for military personnel.
“I was glad to hear constituents say that they closely followed what was happening at the Legislature this session.” said Rep. France. “There were quite a few bills this session that had the potential to significantly impact our residents. It’s encouraging to see people that are able to make time in their busy schedules to stay in tune with how state government could affect them both personally and professionally. I also appreciate them taking the time to share their opinions on these issues.”

“I’m always energized when constituents come out and voice their opinions and become part of the legislative process,” Rep. Scott said. “Hearing feedback on the state of our budget provides important feedback to take back to Hartford as we await the start of the special session.”
