Snow, Rain Forecast for the Weekend in Ledyard [UPDATE]

Read on for when the snow is forecasted to start.

New year, new weather report and it’s a cold one! Saturday, Jan. 3, will bring clouds and cold temperatures during the day.

Meteorologist Gil Simmons predicts snow will start to fall between 3 and 5 p.m. Saturday, before we see a changeover to a possible wintry mix and then rain. Most towns are calling for a range of one to three inches of snow/ice accumulation, according to the National Weather Service.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, the mix is slated to switch to rain as temperatures warm up. Sunday’s forecast is calling for warmth (relatively speaking) and wind.

Sunday’s temperatures will be in the low to mid-50s range for much of the state, the National Weather Service reports.

Temperatures will plummet as the day goes on, with the NWS forecasting a low of 30 degrees Sunday night. Monday is slated to be sunny, with a high temperature in the mid-30s.

  • Saturday: Snow likely between 1 and 4 p.m, then snow and sleet. High near 34. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Calm wind becoming east 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
  • Saturday Night: Rain, snow, and sleet, becoming all rain after 7 p.m. Some thunder is also possible. Temperature rising to around 45 by 5 a.m. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. East wind 5 to 14 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
  • Sunday: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Patchy fog after 9 a.m. High near 59. Breezy, with a southwest wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 18 to 23 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 46 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Sunday Night: Rain likely, mainly before 9 p.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 32. South wind 13 to 16 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
