Son Stabbed Mother, Ledyard Police Say

The suspect has been in jail since the Jan. 25 incident.

Alec Chattin, 19, remains in jail - on a suicide watch - following his arrest on felony assault charges for allegedly stabbing his mother, Brenda Chattin, according to Ledyard police.

The incident occurred on Jan. 25 at the Country Club Drive home where the two live. Alec Chattin stabbed his mother at least six times in the head, arms and hands.

She survived, and she told police that her son also pointed a rifle at her but did not shoot, reports The Day.

The circumstances that led to the alleged assault have not been disclosed.

Chattin is being held in lieu of a $250,000 bond at the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Institution. He is scheduled to appear in in New London Superior Court on March 1.
