State Contractor Settles $1.8M Wrongful Death Suit In 2016 Crash

A state guardrail contractor and the town of Ledyard settled a $1.8 million wrongful death suit after a man was impaled in 2016 crash.

LEDYARD, CT—In the winter of 2016, then-19-year-old Meghean Walker of Mashantucket reportedly lost control of the pickup truck she was driving on Shewville Road and struck a guardrail, the metal of which broke through the front of the car and impaled her passenger the-22-year-old Brett Drake. He died as a result of his injures.

Drake was a Ledyard High School graduate. He was a Lumbee Tribe member.

Now, the company that installed the guardrail and the Town of Ledyard has settled a $1.8 million lawsuit brought by Drake's family, The Day reported.

Berlin, CT-based business, ADF, "installs metal beam guiderail, chain link fence and roadway signs for municipalities and the Connecticut Department of Transportation," it says on its website.
