Teen Killed in Ledyard Crash After Truck Rollover: UPDATE

Ledyard police said one teen was killed and another was injured after their vehicle rolled over.

LEDYARD, CT - Police said one teen was killed and another was injured in a crash Tuesday. The incident occurred at about 4:15 p.m. on Rose Hill Road, according to a release.

Officers from Ledyard Police Patrol Division, along with Ledyard Ambulance and Ledyard Fire Company responded to the area and found an overturned 1992 Ford Ranger pickup truck on the eastbound shoulder of the road, police said. (To sign up for Ledyard breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Police said the driver was able to climb out from the vehicle following the crash, however a passenger was trapped inside with serious injuries. The passenger was observed to have serious, life threatening injuries.

Two patrol officers assisted Ledyard Ambulance personnel in removing the passenger from the badly damaged truck to begin medical treatment, police said.

Police said the passenger, later identified as 16-year-old Zackory Salomonson of Ledyard, died despite efforts to save him. Ledyard Police Accident Investigation Team responded to assume the investigation at the scene.

Initial investigation revealed the pickup truck was traveling in an easterly direction on Rose Hill Road, when it left the roadway to the right, struck a tree, and rolled over after impact coming to rest on its roof on the eastbound shoulder of the road, police said.

Police are still investigating the situation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the department immediately.
