Initial investigation by the Ledyard Police Department indicates that a northbound vehicle operated by Richard Carlson, 59, of Long Cove Road in Gales Ferry, collided with a southbound vehicle operated by Susan Penrose 53, of Meadow Drive in Gales Ferry.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation. As a result of fire supression efforts, water froze on the roadway, requiring it to be closed for a short period until the roadway could be sanded by the state DOT.
