Work on Route 117 to Begin This Week

Major Resurfacing Project Should Continue Until Early November

Work on Route 117 (Center Groton Road) is scheduled to begin on Oct. 12, and if recent improvements to Route 214 are any indication, resident motorists should plan accordingly.

The scope of the Route 117 project, which will extend from Sable Drive north to Route 214, was outlined last week by the state DOT. The project will begin with milling (grinding) the road’s surface on Oct. 12-14.

Paving is scheduled to begin Oct. 19 and continue through Oct. 27. Handwork would begin on Oct. 28 and continue for another 10 days or so until completion.

Work on Route 214 this past month resulted in some lengthy delays.

“The other day they were grinding by the intersection at Colonel Ledyard Highway and traffic was backed up all over the place,” said Mayor Fred B. Allyn Jr. He advised motorists to consider alternate routes during the 117 project.
