Affordable Housing, Food Trucks Discussed in Madison
The Madison Planning and Zoning Board is examining affordable housing, and plan to meet with food truck vendors in town.

According to the most recent meeting minutes for the Madison Planning and Zoning Board, officials are in the very early stages of identifying possible affordable housing locations in town.
Also officials say they plan to meet with food truck vendors in Madison and determine if any changes are necessary to the current regulations.
As we can all remember, the issue of where the food trucks could be located was an ongoing controversy for more than an year. But the issue has been a very quiet one this summer after hundreds showed their support for the food trucks in April.

Here is the information from the zoning commission’s meeting minutes concerning affordable housing and food truck vendors.
“Town Planner David Anderson distributed new copies of the Planning and Zoning Commission regulations to the commissioners, asking them to keep their maps. He also stated that former First Selectman Gus Horvath and he are working on demographics to use during the affordability grant study, which will assist town planners in creating avenues for affordable housing.

Some of the data being used includes the town of Madison assessor’s database and the United States Census, according to Mr. Anderson. This data is allowing them to do an analysis of the housing currently available in town, he said.
The state statute gives a median income for affordable housing, which is also being taken into consideration, while analyzing the data, Mr. Anderson stated. There is probably some need to provide affordable housing in town, he stated.
Mr. Anderson will provide the Planning and Zoning Commission with a fact sheet, when he returns to the board with the completed analysis.
In other matters, Mr. Anderson reported town officials will be meeting with the food truck vendors to examine the food truck rules and regulations to see if there should be any changes; no decisions have yet been made.
