Hazardous Waste Collection Events For Madison Residents

The events are held on Saturdays through Oct. 24, according to officials.

MADISON, CT — The Regional Water Authority and the South Central Regional Council of Governments will operate weekly household hazardous waste collection events every Saturday from May 16 through Oct. 24, 2026, officials said.

Known as HazWaste Central, the events will run from 9 a.m. to noon at the Regional Water Authority headquarters at 90 Sargent Drive in New Haven.

Residents may bring up to 60 gallons of liquid waste and 80 pounds of solid waste per collection event. Officials said residents with larger quantities should register for multiple collection dates and divide materials among separate visits throughout the season. A list of accepted materials is available through the program’s website.

The program is free for residents of municipalities that are members of the HazWaste Central Municipal Planning Committee, including Madison.

Officials said the drive-through setup allows residents to remain in their vehicles while trained professionals unload and dispose of materials. The program is intended to help prevent hazardous household waste from contaminating waterways and other natural resources.

Additional information, including guidance for disposing of larger quantities of waste, is available on the Regional Water Authority’s HazWaste Central webpage.
