MADISON, Conn. – Madison Newcomers Club is continuing its longstanding commitment to supporting local families and students by giving $13,500 back to the community through proceeds raised at this year’s 17th Annual Touch A Truck event.
Funds generated through the popular community fundraiser enabled the organization to donate $10,000 to Madison Youth & Family Services and award a $3,500 Madison Newcomers Club scholarship to a graduating Daniel Hand High School senior. The contribution to Madison Youth & Family Services will help support programs and resources benefiting local children and families, while the scholarship recognizes a student for outstanding leadership and community impact.
Held this spring at Madison’s Surf Club, Touch A Truck welcomed more than 1,400 attendees for a day of hands-on exploration, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities. The annual event featured fire trucks, construction vehicles, public safety equipment, and other large vehicles that children and families could climb aboard and explore alongside the professionals who operate them.
While the event itself has become a beloved Madison tradition, Madison Newcomers Club says its greatest impact comes from what the fundraiser makes possible long after the trucks leave the parking lot.
“Touch A Truck is one of the most visible ways our club brings the community together, but what makes it especially meaningful is the direct impact it has on local families and students,” says Katie Anastasi, President of Madison Newcomers Club. “Because of the incredible support from attendees, sponsors, volunteers, and local partners, we’re able to invest back into organizations like Madison Youth & Family Services and support a graduating Daniel Hand student as they pursue their future goals.”
The event was made possible through the support of dozens of local businesses, volunteers, first responders, and community organizations that donated vehicles, time, and resources to help create the experience.
Founded in 1968, Madison Newcomers Club is a women-led organization focused on fostering connection, civic engagement, volunteerism, and community support throughout Madison. In addition to Touch A Truck, the club organizes community initiatives and social programming. The club also curates welcome bags for new residents and volunteers at popular community events, including the Madison Chamber of Commerce’s annual downtown holiday celebration in December and annual Beachcomber night in August.
“Giving back has always been at the heart of what we do,” says Anastasi. “Events like Touch A Truck show what’s possible when a community comes together with a shared purpose.”
