MADISON, CT — A Severe Thunderstorm Warning and a Flood Advisory are in effect in Madison on Tuesday afternoon, according to officials.
"The current forecast is showing a cluster of heavy showers and thunderstorms in southern Fairfield County moving into New Haven County," officials wrote on Facebook. "Rainfall rates within these storms may reach 5 inches per hour in a few towns. Residents should continue to monitor the weather for any additional updates or changes in the forecast."
Madison police offered the following tips that residents should remember if they find roadways and neighborhoods flooded:
- Always treat downed wires as if they are live and dangerous– do not approach or touch them.
- Charge essential electronics, and in the event of power outages, be sure to run generators outdoors and away from windows and doors.
- Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.
