MADISON, CT — Madison's New Elementary School Building Committee received an update Monday on more than $2.1 million in federal tax credits and remaining work at Neck River Elementary school, while unanimously approving about $35,700 in project invoices.
At its Aug. 31 meeting, the committee learned that the project had received a $2,176,101.21 Inflation Reduction Act tax credit, according to Adam Levitus, the owner's representative project manager with Colliers Project Leaders.
The project team is also working with the commissioning agent on an Eversource rebate worth just under $100,000, Levitus reported.
Two site visits are being planned as the team works to complete and close out remaining punch-list items.
Committee member Woodie Weiss asked for an update on the photovoltaic system. The committee was told the PV system had been transferred to the town's capital improvement plan and would proceed through that process.
Nick Conti of Gilbane said several minor issues remain, including a heater near the fire water break tanks and two exterior cameras. Those items will be addressed along with commissioning work and functional testing of the HVAC and related systems.
The committee also unanimously approved an Aug. 31 invoice packet totaling $35,687.54. The packet included invoices from BVH, CLA, Colliers and Tecton. Committee member Sharon Shoemaker made the motion, which Weiss seconded.
During remarks, committee member Bob Blundon raised concerns about pickup parking, saying it appeared to be an issue for parents.
Peter Anderson, Madison's director of facilities, said roughly half of parents typically pick up and drop off their children. He said the situation has improved this year because staff can move more vehicles through the area by having cars arrive two at a time.
The committee took no action on the pickup issue.
