To the editor:
Along with the rest of Madison, we love the town's iconic movie theater building, owned by our family firm . So when an historic accumulation of snow and ice proved too much for a part of its sidewalk canopy last week, we rushed to find solutions--only to discover the whole town ready to lend a hand.
With this letter we want to extend heartfelt thanks along with acknowledgement. Town Building Official Vincent Garofalo and Fire Marshall Sam DeBurra Jr. responded rapidly, gave clear direction on the steps needed to ensure public safety, and stood by to make sure the job was done and businesses could re-open.
Our commercial tenants' patience, help and understanding were remarkable, while our own team, Cheryl Raab and Kevin Beem, swiftly mobilized a crew to address the problem. Waverly Builders LLC hammered and nailed non-stop in bitter cold to install temporary supports so Silver Moon, the Madison Coffee Shop, the Madison Arts Cinema and Brandon Gallery could reopen as quickly as possible.

In the end all this determination and working together allowed us to safely reopen the building for business just 27 hours after ice caused the first sag in the awning corner. We've got repairs to do, of course, and the building will re-emerge this spring better than ever in the heart of our town.
But for now we are deeply grateful to all the Madison citizens who came together to show their grit, confidence and goodwill. This is what makes our community great.
