Barefoot Movement: down-home mountain holiday music returns to Madison
The Barefoot Movement Holiday show returns to the Fire In The Kitchen Concert and workshop series

The Barefoot Movement is back by popular demand, bringing a bit of Appalachian holiday music to the Fire In The Kitchen Concert and Workshop series. Yes, these kids can play: Telluride Best Band award winners, Billboard chart-toppers, and they even got a great write-up in Rolling Stone magazine. And yes, they’ll be playing some of the old-time and bluegrass tunes that made them award-winners, but this show is all about the holidays, with plenty of favorite holiday songs. You’ll be singing along with the band, for sure. As always, there’s Ashley’s Ice Cream after the show. Adults are $25, kids high school and under, $5.00
The Fire In The Kitchen Concert and Workshop series may be small in size, but it’s reputation stretches around the globe. No less an artist than Darol Anger, multi-Grammy nominated violinist and Berklee professor considers it one of the top three places to play in the country.
The series is held at the North Madison Congregational Church, 1271 Durham Rd, in Madison. The workshops are randomly held, and taught by some of the finest musicians on the planet, and are always free. Past leaders include Jay Ungar, of Ashokan Farewell fame, Natalie Haas, Ben Sollee, Rushed Eggleston, Brittany Haas, and Grammy winners like Dana Leong and Christian Howes.
